A long-forgotten gold miners’ road, Old Ghost Road in the North West corner of the South Island was reimagined into an iconic New Zealand tramping and bike trail. Now, for the first time, people can explore the stunning vistas and breath-taking scenery…at home.

Right now we can’t just strap up our hiking boots or hop on our bikes to go out and explore the Old Ghost Road, but today we’ve got the next best thing: the Old Ghost Road via Google Earth Voyager (captured pre-lockdown, of course). Take the kids for a ‘walk’ along the 85km trail during their geography lessons to explore some of the majestic native forest, open tussock tops, river flats and forgotten valleys of their ‘backyard’.
